Keynote - Learning at Lightspeed - Keeping Your Skills Current in an Open Source World

Is the speed of Open Source frameworks stressing you out? Do you need to be watching all of the podcasts and reading every blog about your favorite technology or else your career will be left behind? Distractions are everywhere in our community. We’ll learn how to focus our projects on the technologies they’re built on to manage the pace of change for our organization while still maintaining support where available.

Let's learn from Microsoft's open source journey over the last 5 years and how to interact with developers and ensure they get the latest updates without overwhelming them.

----------------------------

Jeffrey T. Fritz - .NET Community Guy and Live Streamer

Jeff Fritz is a senior program manager in Microsoft’s Developer Division working on some of the latest web technologies by leading the ASP.NET Web Forms Team. As a long-time web developer and application architect with experience in large and small applications across a variety of verticals, he knows how to build for performance and practicality. You can find his first book, ‘Learn ASP.NET Core in 24 Hours’ on Amazon and other places where dead trees are sold. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays you can catch Jeff hosting a live video stream called 'Fritz and Friends'. You can also learn from Jeff on WintellectNow, follow him on Twitter, and read his blogs.

We've just made the list of sessions for TechBash 2019 available on our website!

This year for TechBash we got tons of submissions of great talks. And the list of talented speakers from around the world that want to present at TechBash is impressive. As organizers, we are humbled and honored that so many great people are interested in being a part of TechBash. Of course, there is a downside to all of this as well - it was REALLY HARD to pick the talks this year. In addition to the number of submissions, another complicating factor in choosing sessions is that we are a polyglot conference. We try to include many different topics including different languages, frameworks, and tools. We include soft skills. We have server side and client side technology. We have cloud and mobile and the list goes on. And it is not easy fitting all of that into a 3 days of breakout sessions. So unfortunately, due to the number of submissions, we have to turn down more people than we accept. That's tough for us organizers, but we are confident that we are planning a great event for you.

So click here to see list you have been waiting for: sessions for 2019. It is "fairly" complete. We do have a few slots open as we are still working on a few details. If you are still trying to decide about TechBash 2019, this should certainly make it easier for you.

See you in November,

Andy

Are you ready for TechBash 2019? Many of you have been asking when tickets will be available, and now is the time.

If you want to save up to 20% on TechBash tickets for you and your team, Early Bird tickets will be available thru midnight EDT on August 23rd (or until they sell out). Visit our EventBrite page and choose a 3-day or 4-day ticket to join us on November 12th thru 15th at the Kalahari Resort in the Poconos. Get more registration info on our site.

Selecting either ticket type gets you tons of great content on Wed/Thu/Fri. We'll have sessions from world-class speakers. Some names will be familiar to those of you who have attended in previous years, and we're also welcoming some fantastic speakers to their first-ever TechBash event. If you select a 4-day ticket, you will also be able to attend one of our deep-dive, full-day workshops on Tuesday, Nov 12. Select one of these workshops during the checkout process on EventBrite:

  • From Zero to Hero with Azure DevOps - Paul Hacker, Microsoft & Daniel Redman, Microsoft
  • Intro to Web Components - Chris Lorenzo, Comcast & John Riviello, Comcast
  • Doing More with Serverless on Azure - Rich Ross, Microsoft
  • Modernizing Your Apps to .NET Core / .NET 5 - Sean Killeen, Excella

Get more info about our workshops and other speakers on the TechBash home page. And we are still finalizing speakers and sessions so be sure to check back often to see who else we're adding!

OK, if you've never been to TechBash, you may be wondering what it is like. To make this easier for you, we've added a Photo Gallery to our site. Here, you can get a feel for what life is like at TechBash. We provide a relaxed and fun space for you to hang out, network, and learn from the best. Check out the photos that include breakout sessions, keynotes, game night, the attendee lounge, and more. Sorry though, no waterpark pictures. If you want to see the slides, check out the Kalahari website.

As the TechBash team prepares for the next big event (Nov 12-15, 2019), we've put together a new website. We hope the new site makes it easy for you to find all the info you need about TechBash.

We've tweaked our styles and colors and tried to make it easier on the eyes. We've also got a news section now, so we will be able to post content there regularly. We look forward to keeping everyone up to date on all the happenings for TechBash.

Speakers who submit talks for TechBash will notice that we have switched over to use a 3rd party service to manage all of that - Sessionize.com. They seem to do a pretty good job with submissions, ranking, and schedule building. If you aren't familiar, we suggest you check it out.

And if you are interested to know, we built this site with a framework called cloudscribe. The framework provides some great features out of the box so we didn't need to write the admin sections, authentication, logging, etc. And it includes a blogging tool that we use for news, plus a small and simple content management system (CMS) that allows us to edit content live on the site without needing to update source code, commit, build and deploy. So that's nice.

Even after we go live, we hope to keep adding features and sections to the site to make it easier for you to learn about TechBash.

TechBash 2018 was an awesome event! We had a ton of great content, some of which was recorded. So, if you couldn't make it to the Poconos last fall, you can still see some of the great sessions. Or, maybe you were at TechBash but missed out on these talks? Whatever the case, we've got the content for you!

Which sessions can you watch? Here is a list with links:

Want to binge watch them all? Check out a playlist of all the sessions that were recorded at TechBash 2018, or save it to watch later with your team.

In addition to these great talks, check out the video testimonials from attendees and speakers. Here's a playlist of our 2018 testimonials.

If you enjoy this content, we hope you'll make it out to the Kalahari Resort for the next TechBash on Nov 12-15, 2019.
